Jewellery from Around the World Part 1

September 2nd, 2010

First stop Spain,

Spain is known for their flamenco dancing and this originated as a gypsy dance back in a region called Andalusia. It has since grown over the years and has now become a symbol of dance and culture to Spain. It has incorporated Latin dance moves and contemporary dance, where as originally it was danced to a guitar and the use of clapping of the hands, modern flamenco can also use flute’s  and saxophones.

With flamenco dancing being so important throughout the culture of Spain this has also meant that the influences that come from the flamenco dance has been brought out into everyday fashion.  The earrings that are worn during a dance are big, with the use of cubic zirconia stones and they even make up part of the sound when a dancer moves. They use sterling silver jewellery and gold and even though the price is not cheap it lasts and is great for doing all the dance routines they have to do.

Second stop Italy,

We all know Italy and especially Milan is one of the fashion capitals in the world and we are glad they have brought some great fashion and jewellery out of this country that we now can own ourselves.  They have taken the concept of the charm bracelet and have brought out their own nomination charm bracelet.  This bracelet is made of stainless steel and is so stylish and classic and you can tell it is an Italian brand for their love of keeping a classic design and yet their love of simplicity as well.

Italy love of fashion and jewellery means that they do not subject their wearer to anything but the best and this is reflected in their nomination range, they have used 18ct gold , semi precious stones and each charge is hand-crafted to perfection.  Just like Spain their quality of jewellery is second to none and will last a life time.

Third stop Germany

We are very lucky that German has a love for cars and that has influenced what many of us drive today.  When looking for a popular style in Germany that would be recognised as their own jewellery brand and I have found it difficult.  They have a range of jewellery called Crocus that appears to entering into other countries now so this may be the next up and coming thing over here too.  It is hand-crafted and offers a selection of beautiful coloured jewellery and intricate designs against sterling silver.

They must have used the flower as inspiration to show the beautiful colours and the arrangements that you can actually do with jewellery.

Latest Celeb Jewellery

September 1st, 2010

Look at all the magazines at the moment all the celebrities are jumping on the same band wagon they all are wearing their jewellery big and beautiful.  Crystal jewellery is really coming in this season and crystals with many different colours not just your plain cubic zirconia stones anymore. Black CZ stones are certainly going to be popular with a lot of the new ranges incorporating this wonderful colour.  It is something we can all wear to with the autumn and winter months on their way, black stoned jewellery goes very well in this season and gives off an extremely classy and sophisticated look.

You do not have to copy the exact earrings of the celebrities but whilst we can still get away with summer colours be on the lookout for fabulous earrings with black stones to create your very own celebrity style.

A great way of getting cubic zirconia stones on a bracelet or in earrings can be through lovelinks jewellery, compared to other leading jewellery brand names this is something lovelinks does really well and is way ahead of the competition on this one.  They have a select few colours of crystal charms to choose from, black, red, purple, gold , silver, pink and green and they have designed sterling silver earrings and necklaces that will mix and match any colour of charm to suit your outfit. This is the perfect solution to keep up with fashion colours and dazzle whilst you do it too.

Not only is it the earrings that are adding extra sparkle to any outfits, bangles are back and are back in a big way!  Wearing a larger than normal bangle with a creative centre piece is what it is all about.  Say goodbye to bangles that were there to add to an outfit as an accessory the new bangle is the main feature of any dress now and one bangle is enough to say it all.

We will keep you in suspense there with just those two fashion must haves, but keep on the look out and stay ahead of the fashion trend.

Nail varnish that lasts a month

August 27th, 2010

This year we have seen many things and now we can say hello to no more chipped nails! It can be extremely frustrating when you are rushing here, there and everywhere and a nail gets chipped, we often have not go the time to stop remove the rest of the colour of the nail and reapply a fresh colour.

Well one word you now need to remember is “ Shellac nail varnish” this word is the only one you will need when it comes to all other nail varnishes. This nail varnish will last up to 14 days flawlessly however a lot of women say it does give great shine and lasts to in-fact a month without a problem.  For all those mums who feel bad about treating themselves to a bit of time out, this manicure set will fact only cost you £13 which is relatively cheap for something that lasts that long.

So say goodbye to acrylic nails, this nail varnish is kind to your nails and will make any type of nail look great. With the price as it is everyone woman can actually go out and treat themselves too.  There is a scientific connection when a woman spends a little bit of time on themselves how they actually promote good hormones within themselves and actually feel happier and more confident.

So for just £13 a month if you are just heading into a salon or £18.95 if you are to buy online you can create a different look each month.  With the choice of colours and with a lot of women owning a charm bracelet , you won’t struggle changing the colour of your murano glass charms of your bracelet to match your new look for the month.

For additional price you can have your feet done and have that feeling you have taken some time out for you and you feel and look great. What makes Shellac so different is because it dries under a UV lamp making sure it is dried properly through the whole process.  It gives the wearer the base coat, , two further coats of polish and a top coat of polish all.  So you know the polish is not easy to scratch off and the shiny finish does not fade.  For those who have experienced acrylic nails knows that as your natural will continue to grow and will leave a gap where your acrylic nail is growing away from your natural nail.  This is the same with Shellac nails too the only thing you will notice is your natural nail growing but by then you will be ready for a change of a colour and your monthly time-out from life.

It has been around for a few months and you may already know a few women who have tried it so see what they thought of it.  But it is certainly all the rage in the US right now and has a lot of women returning back to the salons in the UK now too!

The perfect gift for a success in exams

August 26th, 2010

No matter who has taken their exams it can be a very stressful and anxious time.  For parents they only want the best for their child so that their child can go onto succeed in life.  For a child taking their exams they maybe feeling a great amount of pressure from their school and family to achieve what may seem the impossible.

A great way of showing you are proud of your child no matter what their results are is with a nomination charm bracelet.  Nomination is a beautiful collection of charms and they encompass all occasions of daily life, love, animals, hobbies and more importantly memories, children, weddings and exams etc.

The bracelet is light in weight and so can be worn easily each day and because it is made of stainless steel rather than sterling silver it does not tarnish and therefore is a low maintenance bracelet too.  Nomination have thought about both men and women and that is why they have created a style to suit men a bigger, bolder design and for women a smaller, delicate design.

It is a great way of reminding a person of their achievement so that they can hold that memory for years if not for a lifetime to come.

Which is the best Crown?

August 25th, 2010

We are going to take a look into the different crowns that our monarchs have worn over the years, with one of the most popular items of jewellery around today being the charm bracelet, popular brands such as lovelinks and nomination jewellery have taken an important part in history and have made replica crowns that can be worn on a daily basis.  The crown has become quite a symbol of wealth and authority within a country and a heritage which people are very proud of.

Below is what I believe to be the top 5 of all crowns!

5. Papal Tiara. Now for you who know your stuff you’ll spot that this isn’t actually a Queen or Kings crown, this is the tiara used to crown Popes. Until 1963 when Pope Paul VI abandoned his tiara and donated the value of it to the poor and since then the coronation and crowning of the Popes has never been the same.

Next is not in my top five but worth a mention is the Crown of St. Wenceslas – The St. Wenceslas Crown is of extremely pure gold, 22 carat, decorated with precious stones and pearls. It contains a total of 19 sapphires, 44 spinels, 1 ruby, 30 emeralds and 20 pearls. An old legend tells of anyone who wears the crown is condemned to die within a year, this was confirmed when Reinhard Heydrich, the deputy protector of bohemia “crowned” himself and within a year was mysteriously assassinated by the Czech resistance, but don’t worry the crown is now locked away in St. Vitus’ cathedral.

4. Imperial crown of India – this crown was created for George V by the Garrard & co. Because by English law the crown jewels are not allowed off English shores, this was an inconvenience because at the time India was under British rule. So to ‘by-pass’ the law a new crown was made that would not be a crown jewel but just as impressive to be worn by the emperor of India… oh and it cost a whopping £60,000 then (which is a estimated £4.5 Million today).  It has 6,100 diamonds and consists of further precious stones such as emeralds, rubies and pearls.

3. The Small Diamond Crown of Queen Victoria – this crown was made in 1870 at the request of Queen Victoria by the Garrad & co. Crown jewellers. It has over 1,100 diamonds which were all taken from a necklace Victoria herself owned and had to be dismantled because money was short! Still she could afford to have it made out of pure silver. It was to accompany her in her daily duties for 31 years; I would assume she got her money’s worth in the end. She was actually associated with this crown more over than her own coronation crown. So much that in-fact it was placed on her coffin instead of the coronation crown. This was actually a break in tradition as all other Kings and Queens would actually have their coronation crown put on their coffin.  She was also the longest reigning monarch of 63 years.

2. Coronet of Charles, Prince of Wales – the simplest of the top 5 yet my favourite. It is sleek and modern because it was made especially for Prince Charles. The original had been deemed too old and fragile for use. To add to that the original coronet was taken by the exiled King Edward VIII a very controversial – and illegal – act due to the English Law I mentioned earlier. So rather than prosecute the Ex-King they just asked for his word for it to be return once he had died, he held up the agreement and was returned in 1972.

  1. Imperial State Crown – this had to be the number one crown regardless I would have to say, taking a look at it and you can hopefully understand. The Imperial State Crown due to age, height and weight has been remodelled, repaired and recast the most. However, this crown can definitely teach Vanilla Ice a thing or two about bling it and has over 2,800 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and 5 rubies. Amongst which are the famous St. Edwards sapphire, the black princes ruby And the cullinan II (lesser star of Africa) .

The Decline of Big Brother

August 25th, 2010

This week we have seen the show that has been running for 10 years come to an end.  At one time we would have done anything to get more of Big Brother and something has shifted in the last couple of years that we are now ready to say goodbye.

The last couple of years has seen its decline in viewers which has sparked funding for the programme to be lowered and it has now come to the end of this long running programme.

People who were once fascinated with watching real life take place right before their eyes, now do not prefer not to watch.  Big Brother used its fame in a wrong way at first it was originally a show where you could see ordinary people like you and me living out daily tasks and have to survive in confined spaces and having to fulfil challenges to win food and luxuries etc.

Big Brother then went onto to change the people they put in they seemed to be on a mission to find complete opposites, a homosexual man or woman and someone who cannot stand them, a Christian, a Muslim and an Atheist.  With the extremes of personalities going into the house the tension within the house did seem to be fairly extreme.  They have also put people in the house who were blind and had turrets, which actually showed how difficult it can be for people living with difficulties in our society today.

I think it was the turning point within the show as the credit crunch starting to show within the UK that people were fed up of nobody’s becoming somebody’s purely because they had been on a show not for any real talent.  They would win a lucrative amount of month, some won fashion shoots ( mostly lad mags), some seemed to have a different story each week in the papers.  However well done to those who have made a successful career out of their talent, for instance some have become TV presenters.

From this X-Factor has actually gone from strength to strength as people who have talents are taken through their paces to become the winner.  We can see it is not easy on those involved and we are even allowed to see the auditioning process so we know how they got to where they are.  It is more about their real life and this obviously something people are wanting. People we can no and love from the start as they open up to their past, we feel we are on this journey with them.

What an end to an era of reality TV…..!

Which Colour Suits You?

August 24th, 2010

Everything in fashion is tailored around colours, “ This season’s colour is….” get the look “This top has the very colour we should be looking for ….”  You can hear it everywhere you go and when you switch on the television it’s all about what colour goes and what doesn’t.  It can be so important colour as colour speaks more than we think.  You may go into a certain office and feel right I have to be serious now this can be due to colours within that room or whenever I am round that colour I feel such peace it is amazing when we start to look at the colours and how they impact our daily lives.

We are going to look at a range of colours from the lovelinks range and depending on what colour speaks to you we will show you a charm that matches your mood.

White gives off the impression of purity and peace, often used in homes and a lot in fashion it really stimulates cleanliness and crispness wherever it is.

Yellow stimulates relaxation and again often used within the home environment and we often see this colour as a neutral colour for predominately babies clothes.  This yellow is a pastel yellow and stronger forms of yellow can actually cause eye strain and will cause eyes to be sensitive if light was shone upon it.

Orange is a colour that invites and the tones oranges creates welcomes and warms up and environment.  Fashion this year has really loved the colour coral and it has showed this colour can brighten up any outfit and will naturally lift your mood too.

Blue is similar to white in that encourages peace, tranquillity and is an inspiring colour, it is a colour that has become very popular throughout the home environment and it is a calming colour.  When looking at lovelinks jewellery they have a vast range of blue toned murano glass charms so it shows this must be a sought after colour to wear too.

Red is a dominate colour and looks great against white but would be difficult to introduce any more colours with it as it may create a clash of colours.  It is associated with love, warmth and encouraging feelings.  Again with this colour like any of the colours here it is all about the tones that are used.

Black and Grey are similar and often used in formal settings such as work and are dependent upon the shade and it offers security and stability, these colours teamed well with white and softer tones can still offer a relaxed environment.  However both colours are very much independent too and strong enough to be by themselves and will give off a formality impression when used in clothes and accessorising etc.  Both of these colours are widely used and are great colours for jewellery, bags, and earrings as they are simple enough to be teamed with a variety of different colours to add different combinations.

Now knowing all the above it is great to be able to dress to your mood or alter a mood, maybe you are going through a stressful time and you really want to bring peace in, colours of white will help.  Maybe you want to reflect your warm character and the use of red will lift the mood of others to show warmth and love to them. It is something that is so simple that can really help when structuring your home, office, outfits and may help and improve stimulation, relaxation, cleanliness, warmth etc all feelings we experience and colours picks that out too.

Miss Kelly Brook

August 19th, 2010

Everywhere you look at the moment you can see Miss Kelly Brook and so we thought why not give you some information on our very own British Model who is currently taking on the world!

She is the daughter of a cook and a scaffolder ( though her dad passed away in 2007) and I think Kelly comes across definitely that she is from a working class background and appreciates everything she has achieved so far.

At the age of 16 she won a beauty competition and this is where he career as a model really opened doors, she has been used in adverts for Foster’s, Renault, Walkers, Bravissimo and in plenty of magazines.  In 2005 she was lucky to be voted “Best British Body” by Grazier magazine and we think this has got to be some achievement. She has also done a few films and there is a lot of hype at the moment about Piranha where she appears in her bikini.

Kelly does not appear fearless to try anything; she has a clothing range of swimwear and bikini wear in New Look, she has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, X-Factor and just recently she is being known for her naked month and at the age of 31 she is not ashamed of her body and does not feel the need to cover herself up.  She has been on the front cover of Playboy and Love Magazine showing off what has made her famous.

What is nice about Kelly is that she does not promote a skinny frame; she appears to have a fuller figure which is kept trim and toned with plenty of exercise and healthy eating.  She has never appeared gaunt and even though some would disagree with the stripping off her clothes as being no role model for younger girls, she can be an excellent role model of work with what you have and look after yourself sensibly unlike some other celebs. Maybe this is why she is everywhere, have we had enough of figures we will never achieve however Kelly certainly shows us we can help what we have.

She is also becoming much of a style icon with her influences being the 1950’s look, women back then certainly had figures and promoted them in clothes that accentuated their curves.  One thing Kelly does not seem to be lucky in is love she has a few long term relationships but no one has managed to keep this girl and put a ring on her finger.  Now that her career is blossoming maybe her love life will to?

Accessorise the Denim Look

August 17th, 2010

This summer’s must have is the denim shirt, all our favourite shops are selling them, Topshop, Miss Selfridge oh yes and are bargain places such as Primark, Asda, Sainsburys!  So getting this look can be easy! It is also a look that we seem to be repeating from the 90’s however learn from the mistakes of the past and make sure you do not put too much denim together.

Wearing the denim shirt with a vest top and leggings is the best way to pull it off, however some have been seen to clash it with denim jeans or matching colours and it can be all a bit too much. With the pastel colours being extremely in at the moment a great accessory to wear with your shirt is a lovelinks charm bracelet, their great selection of blue murano glass charms and they are also available in a variety of different shades that can bring out any colour of denim shirt. The best thing with a charm bracelet if you are wearing darker denim or lighter denim you can simply change the colour of the charms to suit and perfect your look.

Another great way of experimenting with denim is with the dress, what is great about denim fabric is that it can be a light material so you don’t have to feel when it is a warm day you are going to be too hot. The denim dress really does look quite striking and something all the celebs are trying out!

Feel confident as long as you don’t clash the denim is can be a great purchase and can give you a variety of different looks, so well worth its purchase. It is easy to accessorise this item with jewellery or use it to accessorise an outfit to keep on trend.

Don’t be ashamed of the Grey

August 9th, 2010

It is something which is inevitable in all of us at some point in our lives but something some of us are actually seeing as fashion “Grey Hair”. Some people embrace this colour when there is no choice and it really can look striking, what can be worse is when a cover up of grey goes wrong.

Celebrities such as Richard Gere have not been afraid to embrace the natural grey highlights and he would not be the same if he was suddenly to change his hair colour as he really suits his grey locks.  But there has recently been a wave of celebrities who are not actually going grey who want this look now and it is making them stand out, Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga are currently on the celebrity band wagon and joining the Grey brigade!

Hair is something people will talk about, as it is the item of clothing you cannot easily take off and on.  So when making a statement with hair it really does attract attention, it is good that celebrities are saying it is ok to be grey and maybe this will encourage more women and men to throw away the hair dyes and grow old gracefully!
